AABSS: Affective Agent-Based Social Simulation
نویسنده
چکیده
This research thesis considers the role of affect in the domain of social simulation. Focus is given to primate-like social organisation and potential internalisation mechanisms. Autonomous (bottom-up) adaptation of hierarchical social organisation and interaction is argued as feasible, by the introduction of affective and simple normative mechanisms into an individual agent architecture. This includes procedures for individual acceptance, or adherence to, approved behaviours and sanctions when considered appropriate by the individual agent. Synthetic agents are addressed as autonomous software entities capable of managing primate-like social dominance in small-scale societies, consisting of a maximum of sixteen agents. The critique involves an explanation of fundamental agent-based social simulation (ABSS) concepts, a comparison of the relevant individual actionselection mechanisms; plus a demonstration and discussion of the potential of affective roles in an agent architecture. The diversity of social and emotional accounts within the design of ABSS systems is discussed by considering behavioural control strategies that may be not only reactive, but also simple deliberative agent operations. Other pertinent models are compared in terms of architectural design, agent behavioural features and the limitations involved in the attempt to integrate emotional concepts into a system designed to simulate social interaction and group organisation.

An Adaptive Agent Model for Affective Social Decision Making
Decision making under stressful circumstances may involve strong emotions and requires adequate prediction and valuation capabilities. In a social context contagion from others plays an important role as well. Moreover, agents adapt their decision making based on their experiences over time. Knowledge of principles from Neuroscience provides an important source of inspiration to model such proc...
متن کاملModélisation et simulation multi-agent de la formation et de la dynamique d'attitudes basées sur les croyances. (Modelling and simulating attitudes formation and dynamics using beliefs)
We study in this thesis the problem of social attitude formation and dynamics using multi agent simulation. The concept of attitude could be defined as a global evaluation of a social object, based on cognitive or affective information. Our works belongs to the field of social simulation which aims to reproduce in a virtual environment complex social phenomenon at a macroscopic level based on m...
متن کاملSimulation of The Impact of Income Distribution on Social Unrest Using Agent-based Modeling Approach
Abstract Poverty and various forms of inequality, including class, gender, racial, and ethnic inequalities, are caused by imbalances of power relations and make society prone to social instability and unrest; Inequalities that are by-products of the growing power imbalances between the rich and the poor. The problems of poverty and inequality are inextricably linked to powerful economic and p...
متن کاملPeer Pressure in Smoking and its Impact on Social Welfare; A Study Using Agent-based Modeling and Simulation
Many people die each year due to smoking. Social pressures, such as peer pressure, which are manifested in one's interactions with his/her peers, are from very effective factors in people's tendency to smoke. In this research, it was attempted to study and analyze peer pressure in smoking and its impact on some of the welfare indicators including mortality number due to starvation, wealth avera...
متن کاملAn agent model of student’s affect for adapting schooling strategies
In this paper, we present a student’s affective model that considers a temporal and multi-dimensional view of the student. It considers three dimensions (i.e., individual, environmental, and social dimension), which contain static and dynamic features. Based on this model, we define a MAS, that includes emotional agents able to simulate student’s and their affective state. This system allows to...
